3 day canoe tour on the Lahn

Tour description

This 3-day tour takes you from the university town of Gießen over two boat lanes and two locks to the historic town of Wetzlar. In this section you pass an idyllic landscape with an enchanting flora and fauna. For example, you can sleep on the Campsite Wetzlar. The campsite Wetzlar offers accomodations not only to canoeists with their own tents but also plots for campers and caravans, cute log cabins and a circus car. The campsite offers its guests a breakfast and barbecue service. Freshly baked buns, delicious cold cuts of sausage & cheese as well as hot coffee & tea that can be prepared for you. Please refer to the campsite staff when making your reservation or booking. Lunch packages for the next day are also bookable.

On the second day the Lahn will take you through the historic town of Wetzlar. Have a look at the historic buildings of the city, such as the cathedral, the old Lahn Bridge and the castle ruins of Kalsmunt from the water. Via a boat lane, a roller conveyor and three locks, the Lahn leads you to the tranquil small town of Leun. You can stay on the Youth Campsite, the campsite Schooleck or in a Hotel or pension in Braunfels.

On the last day the Lahn leads you through two locks and Germany's only tunnel (with double lock) at Weilburg, past a well-wooded landscape with a beautiful flora and fauna. The tour finally ends in Gräveneck at the campsite. Once there you can take the bus back to Wetzlar or the Lahntalbahn railway back to the starting point in Gießen.

Free service: We can book an accommodation on the campsite in Wetzlar, Leun or Schooleck for you. Just write a note in the order form. Please calculate with approx. €10 per person each night (average value). However, the settlement has to be done with the campsite owner directly.

Passenger transport

Canoe ticket: €3.60 per person each trip.

The entry point in Gießen is very easy to reach by public transport. The nearest railway station Gießen can be reached by foot in about 5 minutes. The train station Gräveneck (Station Strasse 15, 35796 Gräveneck) is also within easy reach. It is located directly at the final destination campsite Gräveneck. Buy your regular ticket for public transport or order your cheap Canoe ticket.

1. Day at 10am from Wetzlar to Gießen.

3rd Day at 5 pm from Gräveneck to Wetzlar

Start is at the Kanustation of Kanu Lahn-Dill in Wetzlar. At the end of the day you can use the ticket from Gräveneck to go back to your vehicle in Wetzlar. During the tour, you canpark your car  about 300 meters away from the Kanustation in a free public car park. Furthermore, we offer you to park your car for €2.20 a day at the campsite Wetzlar. The bus trips are operated by a local bus company on behalf of Kanu Lahn-Dill. It is Not to a public bus. You can order the ticket and the canoe ticket during the booking of the boats. Book your ticket early in advance, so you can start the day relaxed.
