This kayak tour takes us over the Christmas holidays to the most beautiful rivers in the Amazon lowlands of Ecuador. We start to paddle with the classics in Tena and then change to the "Rio Upano". The culmination of this world-wide unique kayak experience is the "Grand Canyon" of the "Rio Upano".

Includes

  • All hotel nights including breakfast
  • Transfers
  • Guided tour on the river
  • Accompaniment throughout the tour

Duration

14 Days

The indigenous "Shuar" people that live here call this mighty, 46-kilometre-long, evergreen gorge: "The gorge of the sacred waterfalls": an extremely inaccessible canyon that only a few people have been able to see (only paddlers and some wild Shuar hunters have ever entered this canyon).

day by day

1st day

Individual arrival in Quito, Ecuador. We recommend flights with Lufthansa (via Bogota), KLM (via Amsterdam) or Iberia (via Madrid). On request we can arrange a pick-up service from Quito Airport. The first night we spend in the heart of modern Quito, in the district of Mariscal. Welcome by the guides and check-in. Joint dinner and excursion in Quito's Mile "Mariscal". Hotel accommodation in Quito.

2nd day

In the morning we start the journey to Tena in our bus – to the "Oriente", the east of Ecuador. The scenic journey takes us from the Andes to the small village of Baeza, where we will pause for a typical "Trucha", delicious trout and a freshly squeezed fruit juice. On the spectacular drive to Tena, the road winds along rivers, evergreen mountain slopes and valleys into the Amazon region. We take a first look at the rivers that we will paddle. Hotel check-in in Tena. Then we get our whitewater kayaks and paddles. The kayak guides assist with advice and tips, fitting and tape. A detailed briefing by the guides makes us familiar with land, people, environment, safety, guiding and rivers. Dinner and hotel accommodation in/near Tena.

3rd day

After an extensive breakfast with tropical fruits we load our kayaks onto our taxis or bus. We go to our first river, which we usually choose "near civilization", so that you can paddle and befriend the rivers here. Our snack on the river today consists of delicious tropical fruits! After a beautiful day paddling, we will return to our jungle lodge. There's a cold beer and a hot shower waiting for us. Dinner at the hotel or in one of the beautiful typical restaurants in the centre of Tena. Hotel accomodation in/near Tena.

4th-6th day

Daily we start from our "home" and set off on day tours. Which rivers and river sections we paddle, we decide daily on the basis of the water levels, the wishes and the ability of the participants. On the river we will show you the best lines, also enjoy a playspot and work on request to improve your personal paddle.. For dinner we are in Tena or in the hotel. Hotel accomodation in/near Tena.

7th day

After breakfast we load our bus and drive south. We go along the "Rio Upano", the Amazon Basin always at the foot of the Andes and its volcanoes. The scenic ride takes about four hours. Hotel check-in at "Macas/Sucua" in the afternoon. We relax by the pool. Hotel accomodation at the "Rio Upano".

8th-12th day

Breakfast in our beautiful Jungle Lodge. Every day we start kayaking day trips to the nearby rivers. The Rio Tutanagossa promises the best, technical WW3 in a small, green valley. In contrast, the massive "Rio Upano" shines, especially in its great "gorge of the Sacred Waterfalls": The 46 kilometre long, massive jungle "Grand Canyon". The entrance: A magical moment in the life of every paddler. In the evenings, guests are able to relax in the hotel's sauna and swimming pool. Hotel accomodation on the "Rio Upano".

13th day

After breakfast we leave our kayaking area on the "Rio Upano" in the morning. With our bus and all the equipment we drive towards Papallacta. The varied ride will take all day - with breaks, photo stops and lunch. In Papallacta we can review our wonderful paddling days, the adventures, the Amazon landscape and the encounters with the people again. Relax from the ride in the hotel's hot thermal springs. Last dinner together and farewell drinks. Hotel accomodation in Papallacta.

14th day

After breakfast: Farewell to the guides. Individual departure to the airport or to the next journey.
