day by day description
1st day (Sunday): individual arrival in Kalamata: Many airlines fly directly to Kalamata at extremely low prices (e.g. www.aegeanair.com, www.condor.com). Pickup at the airport of Kalamata. Transfer to the hotel. At a first Greek café on the beach promenade of Kalamata we enjoy the warmth and sunshine of Mediterranean Southern Europe.
Hotel accommodation: We are in the best, some even prize-winning Hotels of Mani, all of course located directly on the sea: so no distance from the boat to bed or to the pool! Our luggage is driven from hotel to hotel in our escort vehicle. Your advantage: Light kayaks, no packing of luggage in the sea kayak, comfortable hotel nights.
Paddling in a sea kayak: We tend to be on the sea in the morning until early afternoon to avoid the wind that is frequent in the afternoon. The daily stages in the kayak are on average about 20 to 30 km long and are guided by local experienced sea kayak guides.
2nd day: Kalamata-Kardamili (22km, 5-6 hours): Our kayaks are located in Kalamata on the city beach. After a short presentation we prerpare our kayaks, check our equipment, listen to a detailed briefing and paddle off to the south. Our first stage on the deep blue Greek sea leads us to Kardamili. Hotel overnight in Kardamili. From 1pm: Jazz Festival.
The Kardamili Jazz Festival: The famous Kardamili Jazz Festival takes place during the week of our sea kayak tour: www.sarpjazz.no/kardamili.html. In the afternoon, in the evening.... until late at night, jazz friends among us can experience many great different bands live, mostly open-air under the Mediterranean sun. A great experience during the days of our stay in Kardamili. The concerts are all free and are held in the many bars and restaurants of the beautiful Greek village.
Massages: Our Greece expert and logistics specialist Claudia is also an experienced masseuse and can bring back to life a tired paddler's arms or back. This (not included) service is available daily. We provide this service on request. (Anyone wishing to book a massage for the first day can do so before tour by email).
3rd day: Kardamili-Agios Nikolaos (15km, 4-5 hrs): Today sightseeing from the sea kayak. Along the "green" mani with its olive groves we pass picturesque bays, dreamy fishing villages, real pirate caves and idyllic beaches, all of which invite us to visit or sunbathe or take a delicious snack. To the east, the mighty Taygetos Mountains rises up to 2407 meters in the clear blue sky. We paddle from bay to bay and take time for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. We paddle to the fishing village of Agios Nikolaos. From there transfer back to our hotel in Kardamili. Hotel overnight in Kardamili. Afternoon, evening.... until late at night again possibility to visit the Jazz Festival in Kardamili
4th day: Agios Nikolaos-Limeni (20km, 4-6 hrs): Again a unique paddle-style awaits us on the dream coast of Mani. The landscape becomes more lonely, the settlement thinner, the sea still "blue". Rugged rocky bays of bizarre beauty and the expanse of the sea shape the image. The large, picturesque bay of Limeni with its seafood restaurants right by the sea is our goal. Hotel overnight in Limeni.
5th day: Limeni-Mezapos (21km, 4-6 hrs): Again a unique paddle-experience awaits us as we continue in the kayak to Mezapos. From there transfer to our hotel, an award-winning hotel in Gherolimenas ("Best historic hotel by Water of Europe 2013).
6th day: Mezapos to Gerolimenas (16km, CA. 3-4 hrs): Today is a real adventure: In front of us lies the rounding of the Cavo Grosso: 16 kilometers of wild cliffs without landing possibility. Wind and waves of the Mediterranean thunder unabated on the mighty cliff structures... if the weather is not behaving. Along the rock walls we paddle (with the necessary safety distance) further south. Just us, our kayaks and the sea. For our efforts we will be rewarded in the afternoon with our award-winning hotel in Gerolimenas, and can relax at the pool ("Best historic hotel by Water of Europe 2013).
7th day: Gerolimenas-Cap Tainaron (18km, 3-5 hrs): On our last paddle day we reach our destination, the second southernmost point of Europe, the cap Tainaron with its striking lighthouse. A moving moment for us paddlers, we paddled the coast of the Mani in their full length by our own power. We circle the cape and finish our sea adventure in a sleepy fishing cove-with the certainty behind the horizon to feel close to Africa. Near the mystical cape is also the lowest point of the Mediterranean Sea, the Calypsotief, with a depth of 5,121 meters. After an extensive lunch in the bay we drive back to Kalamata. Last evening together in Kalamata on the beautiful waterfront with the many bars and restaurants. Hotel overnight in Kalamata.
8th Day (Sunday): You could stay forever - but unfortunately we have to go back home. We are going to the airport Kalamata and will remember the crystal clear water and the Greek hospitality. Time for good-byes. Individual departure from Kalamata.
