The canoe trip starts above the Hattinger weir on a quiet stretch so you can start paddling and get to know the boat. Then it goes along the longest boat chute of the Ruhr where there are smaller whirlpools and two rapids. Along the beautiful Ruhr arch there are some water buffaloes to be seen with a little luck. At the Castle Isenberg, the Hattinger torrent awaits you. You can take it in the middle or on the side. So there is a bit of action and maybe some water in the boat! After the beautiful Hattinger gush it will be contemplative again. Let yourself drift and enjoy the peace. On the lake-like section in front of the weir in Bochum-Dahlhausen you can take it easy.
The short boat slide in Dahlhausen is usable for experienced paddlers and on to a very scenic section, along the Railway Museum, with meadows for a small picnic. In Horst, the next boat slide is waiting for you. Now the Ruhr takes you gently on towards Steele. From here it is another 4 km. On the left side you leave the old Holteyer harbour, which was built 1837 as one of the first in Essen. It served the Ruhr shipping as a safety port in the event of storms and over the winter the coal ships were anchored here as well. Today it is a very natural area where you can also see the one or the other turtle. You continue relaxedly further towards the goal. There, a possible barbecue or a cool beer completes your canoe adventure.
We use boats for up to 10 people. This size is good for a group to handle, even without extra guide. So you can plunge yourself into your adventure after a short briefing. The high-quality rafts made by Spreu in Wuppertal are designed for use in whitewater. So you don't have to worry if you ever touch a stone. The boats are almost non-capsizable on this river section.
Only the boat transport is included in this tour. Each paddler must organise the transport of passengers themselves.
